CEDAR PARK, Texas (AP) _ Bastrop County has settled a federal lawsuit for $775,000 with the family of a high school student who suffered a brain injury after a deputy shot him with a Taser.
The attorney representing Noe Nio de Rivera said Tuesday the agreement was reached Monday. The county admitted no fault as part of the settlement.
County officials and the defense attorney say the former Cedar Creek High School student has accumulated $1.3 million in medical bills from the November injury. Authorities say the deputy shot the teen with a Taser because he acted aggressively and “looked ready to fight.” They say Nio de Rivera hit his head after being shot.
A county jury didn’t indict either of the two deputies at the scene. The FBI continues to investigate.
