A Bedias man is in the Brazos County jail on numerous charges after assaulting a pregnant woman.
That happened Saturday morning in Bryan, according to the arrest report, when a 911 call came into dispatch, where they noted “lots of yelling” and what sounded like a struggle taking place.
The woman, identified as Kaylan Fitzgerald and is 3 to 5 months pregnant, met officers, and told them she and the baby’s father got into an argment Friday night. The man punched and slapped her in the face, and back of the head, both with closed and open fist, according to the report.
The woman left the residence for safety, and returned around 6 am Saturday morning, where her friend, Stephanie Greer, went inside, and found the man in the apartment. Greer ran to the parked vehicle outside, where Fitzgerald reversed the vehicle while Greer was caught in the door, dragging her down a line of mailboxes, and running over a Bryan city speed limit sign. Greer sustained severe injuries from the incident.
Fitzgerald went to the apartment for towels for the ailing Greer, and when she went inside, the man slapped and punched her again.
The man left the scene, running through backyard and neighborhoods near First Street in Bryan, before police caught up. The man began fleeing, and resisted arrest while on the ground.
He was eventually subdued, and identified as 32 year old Mark Allen Chambers of Bedias.
The report also stated a protective order had been issued by Fitzgerald against Chambers on April 23rd, 2021, and expired June 23rd, 2021. The two were married on June 24th, and the assaults occurred on June 25th and 26th.
He was booked into the Brazos County Jail on charges of Assault of a Pregnant Person, two counts of Evading Arrest, and Resisting Arrest. He remains in jail on bonds totaling $30,000.
