Seven years of hard work by a Northern Grimes County community finally bore fruit recently, with the opening of the first medical clinic in Bedias in nearly a century.
As Bedias Mayor Mackie Bobo-White welcomed the throng that had gathered for the ribbon cutting and open house, she said she couldn’t be more delighted with the opening of The BIS Community Clinic.
And though the clinic was the dream of Family Nurse Practitioner Elizabeth Ellis, State Representative Leighton Schubert pointed out it’s truly a community effort.
And Ellis seemed to agree, pointing out the more than 60 patients she had already seen prior to the official opening. She said this points out both how under-served the area has been and how welcoming the community has been for us being here.
But most importantly, she stressed as her voice began to crack with emotion that her heart goes out to all the citizens of Grimes County, for it is they who’ve made this possible.
The full-service primary care clinic will focus on the unique needs of patients in the area, including home visits for home-bound Medicare patients, with an on-site Class D pharmacy in the near future.
