Someone trying to put a Texas Historical Commission marker at the site of the old Plantersville High School building needs some financial help getting it done.
Marilyn Bettes stopped by to speak about the old building, of which there is only a foundation left, and saw its last graduation class pass through in 1942.
“It just seemed that, because of the history that would be tied to that building, which many people might not know about, it might be proper to have a historical marker put there,” said Bettes.
She says the went through the Grimes County Historical Commission to submit he application, and had it approved within a week before the deadline.
“Now, the next step is with that approval, there is a fee attached to actually have the marker…that fee is $1,175,” said Bettes.
The deadline to submit he fee is September 16th. Friends of Grimes County has agreed to serve as a depository for donations, and donations can be tax deductible.
“I would s appreciate some folks in the community, who might be descendants of graduates of the school, or someone who has just a heart for historical preservation…the idea that there was a school in Plantersville, and there were students who graduated from there…and I would like for other people to know that was the case,” Bettes said.

The deadline, again, is Wednesday, September 16th.
