According to a press release from the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, “On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Melvin Leon Boldin, age 63, pled guilty to Indecency with a Child.
On July 4, 2022, the Navasota Police Department took a report of child sexual abuse.
A male child reported while sleeping at a residence in Navasota, Melvin Boldin fondled his genitals while he was trying to sleep. Melvin Boldin was sleeping in the same room. An adult witness reported that she opened the bedroom door in the middle of the night and saw Bolding laying beside the child and “jump back” when he saw her in the doorway.
Investigator Travis Mullins worked the case, interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence.
On April 4, 2024, Chief Investigator John Wren, with the District Attorney’s Office, assisted Mullins with the investigation by conducting an interview with Melvin Boldin. During the interview, Wren obtained incriminating statements from Boldin, including Boldin telling Wren the child was honest and would not make up the allegation.
Melvin Boldin was charged with Indecency with a Child, which is a second-degree felony. Boldin’s previous felony convictions gave prosecutors an enhanced punishment range of up to life in prison.
On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Melvin Boldin was sentenced to 30 years in prison, by 506th District Judge Gary Chaney, in a plea agreement made by Assistant DA Meagan Ghormley.
Melvin Boldin is in the custody of the Grimes County Jail awaiting transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.”
