Five Houston men charged with breaking into multiple Brazos Valley businesses in 2017 have been sentenced.
The men were seen on surveillance videos stealing from Jumping World and Willie’s Ice House in College Station. The group was also convicted of burglarizing Smitty K’s, Koppe Bridge and several restaurants in Navasota.
The Brazos County District Attorney’s Office says the men covered their faces with masks, hoodies or hats, then broke into the buildings by smashing the windows or using a crowbar. In one case, while looking for money, they attempted to use a grinder to break a safe.
The five men were caught in December of 2017 in Koppe Bridge and were arrested with the assistance of a DPS helicopter.
All five were charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and pleaded guilty. Because of their various criminal histories and involvement in the burglaries, they’ll serve different sentences.
Trumaine Merritt, 24, was sentenced to 16 years. Christopher Cigar, 24, will serve 12 years. Devante Webb was given 8 years in prison. Nigel Luchin was sentenced to 6 years. Deshawn Webb, 20, was sentenced to 4 years.
