House declared total loss after fire between Bedias and Richards in Walker County

September 13, 2022 by Andre Perrard

A fire Tuesday near Richards was contained by firefighting crews before it got out of control.

Authorities say the fire started at a home in the 300 block of Hoke 2 Road, between SH 30 and Pool Road just across the Walker County line.

The homeowner was reportedly asleep when the fire started and someone woke him up to alert him of the fire. It then spread from the home to a 1.5 acre area around the home. Crews contained the fire after a couple hours.

Multiple firefighters from Grimes County and the Texas A&M Forest Service assisted on the scene with Walker County crews.

The home is a total loss, and no word on what started the fire.
