A traffic warning for a busted tail light ended with the arrest of an Iola man last week.
That incident happened on Friday, when College Station police stopped a truck on University Drive. The officer saw him making furtive movements, reaching for the center console. The man explained he was driving home, and truck was not his, but the owner lets him drive it.
The driver glanced at the center console when asked if he had anything in the car, saying he just had tools and junk. While the officer was writing a warning for the tail light, he observed the man fidgeting, reaching into his pockets, and messing with items in the truck bed. Dispatch advised the man had a previous possession of a controlled substances charge.
A K-9 was brought in when he refused consent to search the vehicle. Authorities found a glass pipe with methamphetamine. He was arrested, and identified as 38 year old Benjamin Earl Barnett of Iola. Barnett was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1.
He is out of jail after posting a $6,000 bond.
