The Bryan city council is being asked to approve a three year rate increase for BTU customers outside the city of Bryan.
It would be the first time that BTU rural customers would be paying more.
Recommendations from consultant Joe Mancinelli included a $15 dollar a month increase for rural residential users, split evenly over that period.
Residents inside Bryan would see a decrease of $3 dollars a month over the same period.
Historically, BTU rural customers paid less because it was believed they were more efficient users. Mancinelli says data gathered from smartmeters over the last year show they’re no more efficient compared to Bryan customers.
