According to a press release from the City of Navasota which reads,
“On May 28th at approximately 1:15 a.m., Navasota Police Officers responded to an apartment complex located at 700 Doris Street for a report of a physical altercation in progress. Officers arrived at the complex and found a large crowd gathered. Several witnesses stated a male subject forced entry into an apartment without consent. Witnesses stated the male ran through the apartment and committed assault on one of the residents. Other residents inside the apartment forcefully removed the subject. Once outside of the apartment, a physical altercation occurred between the male and residents. Witnesses stated the male then left the scene, which was prior to officers’ arrival.
A few minutes later, a family member located the male in a grassy field approximately two blocks away from the apartment complex. Officers observed the male unable to stand on his own and mumbling. The subject resisted but was detained and medics were requested.
While detained, the male lost consciousness and CPR was started. Navasota Fire Department and EMS arrived and continued treatment, and the male was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Grimes Hospital in Navasota.
Around 2:30 a.m., the male was pronounced deceased. The identity is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
Navasota Police Investigators and a Texas Ranger were requested to assist in the investigation.
