Amidst the scorching hot weather, a burn ban is now in effect in Grimes County until further notice.
Emergency Management Coordinator David Lilly spoke briefly about it at Wednesday’s meeting of Commissioner’s Court.
“I did check with all fire chiefs, and they all unanimously agreed it was probably prudent to have one put in place,” said Lilly.
“Some voiced concerns in the increase in runs that results from when bans are put in place,” Lilly said. “But I am of the opinion…I believe the vast majority of citizens, when you put any kind of law or rule in place, that they do follow it.”
The ban comes as drought conditions in the Brazos Valley worsen. Madison and Waller Counties have also enacted burn bans.
Commissioner’s voted unanimously to enact the burn ban. No rain is forecasted for the next week.
