Grimes County is officially under a burn ban, thanks to the newest cold front.
The low humidity and gusty winds prompted the Commissioner’s Court to call an emergency meeting on Wednesday afternoon, where County Judge Joe Fauth said there simply has not been enough moisture provided lately, which was supposed to come with the cold front.
“Although a few spots in the county did get a little rain, overall, most of the county got no rain, or little, if any. Conditions have been dry as of late, College Station had 0.27 inches of rain, Huntsville only recording 0.44 since August 19th,” said Fauth.
“A few of our neighboring counties have put bans in place. So, I wanted to bring this up, not to follow suit, but to start a discussion of what is the best thing to do.”
Grimes County joins Madison, Robertson, Walker, and Waller Counties in enacting bans.
The Burn Ban is in effect for Grimes County until further notice.
