California man arrested, linked to multiple Navasota thefts

April 2, 2020 by Willy1550

A California man, who might be linked to several thefts in Navasota the last 18 months, was arrested last week thanks to the help of fingerprints.

Navasota PD was dispatched to Tractor Supply Company last Friday, March 27th, in response to a theft. As they arrived, the suspect fled, striking witnesses with his vehicle. Officers spotted the vehicle travelling on Highway 6 shortly after.

The suspect was stopped neat Grassy Creek Mobile Home Park, where authorities found several stolen items inside the vehicle, including items from Tractor Supply.

The suspect was taken into custody for questioning, where he gave officers several false names. His vehicle also had a fictitious license plate, making him hard to identify from several other thefts.

Fingerprints eventually identified the suspect as 31 year old Roberto Gomez of California, who also had an outstanding warrant in Waller County.

During interviews and investigation, officials began linking him to several thefts of local businesses that occurred in the last year and a half. There was no specification on the thefts in which he may have participated.

Gomez was booked in the Grimes County Jail on 1st degree Robbery charges, a charge which was enhanced one degree due to the recent disaster declaration. He will also be charged with Failure to Identify, Displaying Ficticious Lisence Plate, and numerous Theft charges.
