Yet another speed limit change is coming to Navasota.
“This one is for FM 379, from our south city limits, to the intersection with Washington Avenue. What they are doing is recommending lowering the speed limit five miles per hour from where they were, it was 50, now it is going to 45. Actually, it will be 40 in one very short section. Then, it will go from 45 down to 40,” explained City Manager Brad Stafford at Monday’s City Council meeting.
One section of the road is actually being lowered by 15 miles per hour, which is the most TXDOT can reduce a speed limit at one time too, according to Stafford.
This was not a city request, and came directly from a TXDOT speed study they did on the location.
Councilman Bernie Gessner and Stafford discussed why TXDOT may have performed the study.
“It certainly is going to make the people at Heritage Meadows happy,” said Gessner.
“The growth of Heritage Meadows has probably been part of the reason behind this need to do a traffic study,” said Stafford.
Stafford mentioned TXDOT crews had equipment set up on North La Salle, saying it might be for a speed study, but did not know for certain.
Council approved that speed limit change on FM 379.
