CHI St. Joseph adds new medical helicopter

October 8, 2019 by Andre Perrard

A new medical helicopter is coming to the CHI St Joseph line.

According to a news release from CHI, the company has acquired a twin-engine Airbus H-135 helicopter, upgrading their system’s air medical service line.

The aircraft also offers a number of features designed to control engine performance, improve flight stability while reducing noise, improving pilot awareness and visibility and providing full training and support to the AirMed12 team.

Because the aircraft has a fully-integrated stretcher, Air Med 12 will be able to load and unload patients faster and more efficiently. The team will also have use of the helicopter’s additional room and mounting space to transport advanced hemodynamic support equipment or specialized neonatal transport teams.

According to Airbus, the H-135 model is the market leader in Emergency Medical Services (EMS), providing ample room for patient care and cabin volume that allows direct access to on-board patients needing emergency care like CPR. The model is also widely used by law enforcement, emergency search and rescue teams and the energy industry.

Pilots and other necessary staff will undergo specialized training with the aircraft after it is delivered.
