CHI St. Joseph’s parent company refinancing nationwide debt of over four billion

June 10, 2019 by Andre Perrard

The new parent company of CHI-St. Joseph is in the process of refinancing more than four billion dollars in debt around the United States.

65 million of the debt is in Brazos County. While the county or any other government is not responsible for paying any of the debt, the original bonds were issued through a county development program. That means the county has to approve any changes. And that’s on the agenda for Tuesday’s commission meeting in Brazos County.

Up to 45 million involves St. Joseph projects at the regional health center and adjoining properties in Bryan. Up to 15 million involves St. Joseph’s College Station emergency center along the freeway. And up to five million comes from St. Joseph’s health express care center in College Station.

In December 2017, CHI merged with another Catholic health provider to create a non-profit called Common Spirit Health.
