January 6, 2025 by Willy1550

The City of Navasota, in collaboration with Navasota Citywide Mission, invites the public to join in honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day of celebration, reflection, and unity. This year’s theme, “Moving Forward by the Power of Love,” inspires the community to come together in a shared commitment to love, equality, and progress.

The celebration is on Saturday, January 18th beginning with a parade. Line-up for the parade begins at 10 a.m. on Brosig Avenue and there’s no registration required.
The parade will begin at 11 a.m. down Washington Avenue and LaSalle Street.

Following the parade, a Memorial Program will be held at Friendship Baptist Church in Navasota, featuring special guest speaker, Dr. Ruth J. Simmons, President Emerita of Prairie View A&M University, Brown University, and Smith College. Dr. Simmons is an esteemed leader in education and a passionate advocate for equality and progress.

This annual event is an opportunity to reflect on Dr. King’s powerful legacy and his enduring message of love and justice. This event is free and open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to attend and participate in this meaningful day of celebration.
