According to a post on the City Of Navasota’s Facebook page, the city will be cleaning Oakland Cemetery on a regular basis, per City Ordinance No. 562-08.
“The City encourages loved ones to make sure any items placed on a gravesite are not in violation of this ordinance.
During clean up, prohibited items will be removed and discarded.
Items that will be removed include, but are not limited to, trinkets, shepherd hooks, solar lights, beverage cans/bottles, plaques, picture frames, etc.
As a reminder:
Only ONE potted plant, basket, floral piece, funeral design, decoration, or other object of temporary design (within 6 inches in diameter and no taller than 24 inches) is permitted, as long as it is placed within six inches in front of the monument. A monument containing permanently attached vases may have more than one flower arrangements, if placed in the existing vase(s). A saddle arrangement may also be placed on the monument.
Holiday decorations may be placed on grave spaces no sooner than five days prior to the holiday calendar date and must be removed 10 days from the holiday date. Holiday items that are not removed by the family will be discarded on the 11th day.
Objects of any kind other than flowers are not allowed to be placed anywhere on the monuments.
The City is not liable for lost, stolen, or misplaced items set upon grave spaces.”
