The College Station city council Thursday night approved additions to the code enforcement department. It was part of a unanimous vote to make two budget amendments. A staff assistant will be added to Code Enforcement and a part-time code enforcement officer was elevated to full-time status. The staff assistant will provide administrative support that allows code enforcement officers to spend more time in the field enforcing city codes. City staff hope to have the changes in place before the start of the fall semester at Texas A&M University. The additional cost for the remainder of this budget year is $43,515.
The council also unanimously approved changes to the city sign code, allowing electronic message boards to change every 15 minutes instead of every 24 hours and increase the size of fuel price signs from 16 to 24 square feet. Regulations were also added for electronic signs to provide standards for brightness, method for changing the message, ambient controls, and malfunctions.
