Kevin Brady, Grimes County’s Congressman, will be heading out of office.
Brady announced at The Woodlands Economic Outlook Conference today that he will be retiring at the end of this term, which will be his 13th in Congress.
“You know, I set out originally to give you, my constituents, the representation you deserve, the effectiveness you want, and the economic freedom you need. I hope I delivered on that. It is a remarkable privilege to work for you in the U.S. House of Representatives. Thanks to your strong support, I have been blessed with so many opportunities to lead, including becoming the third Texan to lead the House Ways and Means Committee. And I will never forget the trust you have given to me,” Brady said.
Brady is a South Dakota native, who ran the Montgomery county Chamber of Commerce for around 20 years. He then went on to win a seat in the Texas House in 1990, and then congress in 1996.
He served as the Ways and Means Committee Chairman from 2015 to 2017. His big win came in 2017, when he helped push through tax cuts.
He went on to say about his retirement that anyone who says him retiring is Donald Trump’s fault is “nonsense.”
Brady only gave one reason during his speech to the conference.
“As you may not know, because House Republicans limit committee leaders to six year terms, I won’t be able to chair the Ways and Means Committee in the next session when Republican’s win back the majority,” Brady Said. “Did that factor into the decision? Yeah, some.”
Brady’s term will expire in 2022.
