There are so many heroes in the County of Grimes, they had to open a new category at last Saturday’s Annual Crimestoppers Banquet: Investigator of the Year. Awarded to Navasota PD’s Mike Mize, partly because of solving several area-wide burglaries and getting nearly 30 accused drug dealers off the street, and partly because he is a instructor at for TEEKS Police Academy and was voted as one of the top ten Instructors of the year.
Banquet MC Richard Grimes also announced the Jailer of the Year as Sheriff’s Rosie Guerio, who, besides saving her sergeant’s life, was instrumental in dealing with an assaultive inmate.
Grimes revealed a nationwide innovation led to this year’s Dispatcher of the Year honors going to NPD Communications Supervisor Alexis Bell.
And it was his dashboard camera’s record of his bravery last year in removing a man from a blazing wreck that had minutes before been his car, that led to the honor of Grimes County Crimestopper’s 2016 Officer of the Year being bestowed upon Navasota Patrol Officer Dustin Failla.
