Crash Shuts Down Westside Bryan Intersection

August 15, 2014 by Archive

The Friday morning commute took longer for some on Bryan’s west side.

That’s after a crash closed the new Harvey Mitchell Parkway bridge over Villa Maria between 6:45 and 8 a.m.

Bryan police report a southbound car on the bridge veered into the rear of a dump truck, resulting in enough debris to close the bridge.

The driver of the car, 25 year old Richard Shafer of Arlington, told officers he was drowsy. He was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver of the dump truck was not hurt.

Shafer was ticketed for failing to maintain a single lane.
