The City of Navasota is getting a new disc golf course!
Discussion on that came at Monday’s city council meeting, where installing one in August Horst Park was introduced. David LaCour with the Parks Board says having this course will put Navasota on the map with other local cities.
“Going to be open to all, kids and adults of all ages. It is more popular than you might think. Brenham has courses, College Station has multiple courses, Huntsville…and they are all really busy. We feel it will be a win-win for everyone, the local businesses get fallout from people coming into town to play,” said LaCour.
The cost of installing the course is about $5,000, of which the city only owes $1,500, which will come from the Utility Donations Fund.
The course will be free to play, and will be nine holes. B.J. Moody, a professional disc golfer and the course designer, was asked as well about the walking trails, and if any pedestrians need to be dodging flying discs.
“We have already designed the course to keep away from the walking paths. And, most courses in the area…they all weave through parks. At Southern oaks, on Harvey Road in College Station, it is a very busy park. You will find that 90 to 100 percent of the people who play are very courteous,” said Moody.
He noted as well that there will be an extra hole, to be used for practice. In total, it will be nine holes long, and besides the $1,500 initial investment, the installation itself will not cost the city any money.
No word on when the course will be ready to play. For questions, contact the city at 936-825-6475.
