Driver’s License expiration waiver ending, deadline to renew set for April 14th

January 27, 2021 by Willy1550

After a year of COVID granted some leniency as far as renewal of Texas driver’s licenses, registrations, and so on, the grace period for getting that squared away is approaching.

“If you are expired, if you are in the window where you took advantage of the provision the governor gave us…to now overcrowd the drivers license offices, etcetera, that deadline is done. April 14th, the waiver, for expiration of DL’s and ID’s…that is your last day,” said Texas DPS Sergeant Stephen Woodard speaking on Let’s Talk Traffic Wednesday morning.

And while a trip stand in line at the DMV is not something people generally cherish, Woodard said, in his own experience, he has seen people get in and out very quickly.

“I am sitting there, and I said ‘let me do a quick survey to see how quick people get in and out.’ There is no line. A lady walks in, I am eating a sandwich. She does her pre-COVID screening, take her temperature, and ask those questions, they headed in there. I finished the sandwich. As I was balling up the paper from the sandwich, the lady was walking out, and she was done,” said Woodard. “Get this stuff taken care of.”

Again, the new deadline for renewing your drivers license, and other things, is April the 14th. For more information, visit dps.texas.gov.
