According to a Press Release from the Grimes County District Attorney,
“On April 6, 2023, Navasota Police Officer Ethan Tyler initiated a traffic stop on a 2005 Jaguar driven by Ronnie Zephyn. Zephyn evaded Officer Tyler, changing streets multiple times, while in the City of Navasota, before eventually stopping in the parking lot of Dollar General.
Law enforcement officers conducted a felony takedown due to the high-risk nature of the traffic stop.
Ronnie Zephyn was arrested for Evading Detention in a Vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, Officer Tyler located methamphetamine that weighed 10.72 grams.
On December 30, 2023, Ronnie Zephyn was arrested again during another traffic stop for possession of 13.80 grams of methamphetamine. Zephyn was out on bond at the time of this offense, which occurred in northern Grimes County.
On Monday, April 15, 2024, Ronnie Dewain Zephyn, age 58, pled guilty to Manufacture of Delivery of a Controlled Substance before 506th District Judge Gary Chaney. Zephyn was sentenced to 25 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in a plea agreement made by District Attorney Andria Bender.
Ronnie Zephyn has extensive criminal history. Under Texas law, Zephyn would face a habitual punishment range.
Ronnie Zephyn is in the custody of the Grimes County jail awaiting transfer to prison.”
“Ronnie Zephyn is another drug dealer being removed from our community because of good police work. Illegal drug distribution has a nexus to almost every other type of crime, especially violent crimes. That is why our office does everything we can to send drug dealers to prison!”–District Attorney Andria Bender
