There is another, additional early voting day coming in Grimes County for the primary elections. At the February 5th meeting of Commissioner’s Court, County Elections Administrator Lucy Ybarra provided an update on the early voting.
She says, after a petition filed by the Grimes County Democratic party, the extra earl voting day in Grimes County is on Sunday, February 23rd at the Navasota Center.
The county has done this before in 2018, opening on a Sunday for early voting. Commissioner Barbara Walker mentioned the successful turnout last time early voting happened, which resulted in around 380 people voting on that day.
The petition was drawn up by the Grimes County Democratic Party but, as County Judge Joe Fauth and Ybarra clarified, it does not mean it is a voting day for just one party.
“They are the ones who gathered the signatures and asked for Sunday voting,” Ybarra said.
“But, it does not mean that Republicans are excluded from voting, it is just the process,” mentioned Fauth.
“Yes, and I did speak with the Republican Chair Susan Patrick, and she was well aware of it before we started…I met with both chairs prior to them starting the petition. So, everyone was involved, well informed and on board with it,” said Ybarra.
Once again, the additional early voting day here in Grimes County will be Sunday, February 23rd. If you need more information, you can contact the elections office at 936-873-4425.
