Early voting has gone on for about three days for the May 1st elections, and the turnouts in Grimes County have been rather low thus far.
“I understand that, because of school board elections, city elections, and things of that sort, not everyone is eligible to vote. But, in two days of elections, we have had a turnout of 103 voters county-wide. And we have four early voting locations,” said County Judge Joe Fauth at Wednesday’s meeting of Commissioner’s Court.
The four locations to early vote are in Singleton at the Community Center, Navasota Center in Navasota, Longstreet Community Center in Richards, and at the Courthouse in Anderson.
Biggest turnouts so far have been in Richards, as there is a big school district bond vote up. But, there is plenty more up, like city council seats and school board seats across the county. And Fauth noted, while its not major, these elections have major implications.
“I know this is not a Presidential Election, but these elections do effect your schools, and the communities in which you live, if you are on the ballot,” said Fauth. “You are spending your tax dollars to open these voting centers up…just as encouragement, that is one of the freedoms you have living in Grimes County, Texas, and the U.S., is to exercise your right to vote. So,I encourage you to get out and vote.”
You can vote at any precinct in Grimes County, as it is a countywide polling place. Early voting continues through April 29th, with election day set for May 1st.
