Last Saturday was Election Day, and there were several local issues up for Grimes County voters to decide on.
The City of Plantersville elected 3 new Alderman:
Derrick Mallard Sr., Marilyn Bettes, and John A. Greenwood
The City of Navasota had 3 City Council Positions:
Position # 1- was the only contested race with incumbent Bernie Gessner winning with 203 votes against Bobby Gentry with 134 votes.
All 28 Propositions to amend the City of Navasota’s Home Rule Charter passed.
School Elections and Bonds:
Navasota ISD School Bond Proposition A & B passed.
Anderson-Shiro CISD had 2 Board positions on the ballot, the only contested race was for Position # 5, which Kary Borski was elected to with 148 votes over Hanna Hart and Keith Zimmerman.
Iola ISD had 2 contested Board positions up for vote.
Position # 4- Tammy Harvey won with 229 votes over Stephanie Padgett with 215 votes.
Position # 5- Mark Winningham won with 293 votes over Michael Nelson with 137 votes.
In Iola, there was a Proposition on the ballot that had some voters confused. We spoke with Grimes County Election Administrator, Rachel Walker, who explained the confusion and the final result.
