We reported a few weeks back that the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley had a new Executive Director in Sylvia McMullen. She was formally introduced at Tuesday night’s Navasota city council meeting.
And McMullen told the council that she hopes to bring a more business sense to the local arts.
“Someone asked me how much I think I am business, and how much I think I am art. I am about 50/50…economic development is a big part of what I believe the arts bring because they bring quality of life. So, I am a strong believer that it is one part of the pie,” McMullen said.
She also said that she is excited to see how they can get the artists in Navasota more involved and embedded in the community.
“I think we have an opportunity in this region to collaborate more. I am very interested to see what more we can do and expand that. We are really very excited about what we’re going to look for in the future vision,” said McMullen.
You can go see Navasota’s Artists in Residence at the Horlock House. It is open Wednesday’s through Sunday’s from 9 am until 6 pm. So, head on down and support your local artists!
