One local teacher and another from College Station were recently treated to a behind-the-scenes look at Navasota city government thanks to the Brazos Valley Council of Government’s Externship Program. City Manager Brad Stafford explained it is an effort for local teachers to tie their education into jobs for the kids they teach.
Reporting to Council, Stafford said both the English and the Political Science teacher had a great time visiting with personnel in many of the city’s departments. He said they only had them for three days, though the both wished it could be longer. They both had a lot of good things to say, including one who said they’d been looking for a house here, and it was the Externship Program that made them know for sure they’d be moving here.
An excited Mayor Pro Tem Grant Holt then read aloud a portion a letter written afterwards by one participant, who glowingly likened the city to a close-knit family
Stafford explained the COG conducts its program through the Texas Workforce Commission. And although everyone on Council seemed eager for the next Extern to come visit, no mention was made as to when that might be.
