Federal Appeals Court Strikes Down “Universal Service Fee,” Which Could Lower Cell Phone Bills

July 26, 2024 by Willy1550

Cell phone bills could be a little less expensive. That’s after a federal appeals court struck down what’s called the universal service fee, which is administered by a private company hired by the federal government. A law professor at the University of North Texas-Dallas, Brian Owsley, says the courts have been showing their irritation at the way some fees are imposed.

Owsley expects an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court to keep the fee, which is intended to provide internet and cell service to rural and remote areas.
