Former Blue Bell CEO avoids felony charges and jail time with plea agreement plus $100,000 fine

March 9, 2023 by Andre Perrard

The former CEO of Blue Bell in Brenham has had felony charges dropped against him from the 2015 listeria outbreak which killed three people.

A plea agreement in Austin federal court states that Paul Kruse will plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge relating to food safety violations. He will also pay a $100,000 fine, and avoid any jail time.

The initial trail resulted in a hung jury last year, where Kruse was accused of trying to hide what was known about the contaminated ice cream.

Three years ago, Blue Bell Creameries pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges, and paid more than 19 million dollars in fines.
