The former president of the Grimes County Fair Association is facing felony charges for misappropriation of fair funds. Grimes County Sheriff’s Investigator Kindale Pittman says the problem first came to light last month after fair representatives brought several unusual transactions to the attention of the sheriff’s department.
Pittman says the amount in question totals more than $38,000, which Cruz reportedly admitted completing to investigators during an informal interview, which then resulted in a warrant being issued against him.
47-year-old John Anthony Cruz of Iola turned himself in at the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office under arrest warrant in connection with allegations of Theft of Property $30,000 or more, but less than $150,000, which is a 2nd Degree Felony, punishable by two to 20 years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and a fine not to exceed $10,000.
Later that same day, Pittman tells Navasota News Cruz bailed himself out on a $15,000 bond, and has subsequently resigned from the Fair Association itself.
Upon completion of the Sheriff’s investigation, the matter will be turned over to the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office.
So keep it on 1550, and when Grimes new District Attorney decides how she’ll pursue this matter, we’ll pass on to you, right here on Navasota News.
