Former NPD Cop Shooting Gets Second Look

December 10, 2015 by Willy1550

A two-year-old wound is being reopened, and the scar runs from Navasota to Houston.

That was when a Harris County Grand Jury refused to indict an off-duty, now-former Navasota Police Officer for the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Jonathan Santellana at a west Houston apartment complex.

Now, due to some recent changes in how Texas Grand Juries are selected, the family’s attorney Randall Kallinen says they recently took the case back to the grand jury for another look.

Kallinen tells Navasota News the former NPD officer claims the shooting was justified because his life was in danger, a contention the lawyer disputes, claiming he has both evidence and witnesses to back it up.

But due to the way Grand Jurys work, he continues, unfortunately there is no telling how long it will be before the Santellana family will find out if their son’s case will be heard in court or not.
