Former Somerville coach killed in fatal crash near Brenham

A former coach and teacher in Somerville was killed in a crash near Brenham on Monday night.

According to Texas DPS, a Chevy Equinox was driving behind an 18 wheeler Volvo pulling a trailer. When the Volvo prepared to turn right, the Chevy ran into the back of the trailer.

DPS said the driver of the Chevy was pronounced dead at the scene, and identified as 51 year old Michael David Myers.

The driver of the big rig, identified as 55 year old Philip Harless of Quinlan, was not injured.

Myers worked as a coach and teacher at Somerville from 2005 to 2017.

No further details were released.
