State senator Charles Schwertner, whose district includes much of the Brazos Valley and formerly Grimes County, has been arrested on a DWI charge.
An Austin police spokesperson said this took place during the midnight hour following a traffic stop. The reason for the traffic stop and the circumstances of what led to the arrest were not disclosed.
Schwertner was booked into the Travis County jail.
The Georgetown Republican, who used to represent Grimes County, covers a ten county district that includes Brazos, Walker, Madison, Robertson, Milam, Limestone, Freestone, and Leon counties.
Grimes County moved in 2022 from Senate District 5, to Senate District 18, and are now represented by Lois Kolkhorst as of January.
