Four Houston Teachers Accused of Cheating Resign But Will Get Paid

August 8, 2014 by Archive

HOUSTON (AP) _ Four Houston teachers accused in a cheating scandal have agreed to resignation packages that include a year’s salary.

The Houston Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1vj9Zm5 ) the Houston Independent School District board approved the deal Thursday.

Superintendent Terry Grier had recommended firing five Jefferson Elementary School teachers over students’ statements and suspicious test scores. They suggested the teachers provided improper assistance to students on high-stakes exams last spring.

The teachers had argued that the children confused getting help on practice tests with the official state exams.

The fifth teacher accused in the case previously resigned to take another job and won’t receive the severance payment.

The teachers’ names were not released.
