Free Furniture Promotion Gets National Attention

August 29, 2014 by Archive

The Texas A&M football team’s blowout of South Carolina resulted in free furniture for more than 650 customers of the Ashley Furniture store in College Station.

Owner Mark Wilks, who was in the process of planning a check writing party when he spoke to Louie Belina of sister station Sports Radio 1150 The Zone, wants to do it again.

Wilks says the key was the Aggies being the underdog going into the South Carolina game.

Because the Aggies won by at least ten points, Wilks will be writing checks for more than $1 million dollars to customers who bought furniture during the promotion.

Wilks says his cost between the insurance and paid advertising was a little more than $150,000.

The payback included exposure on ESPN and CNBC among other places.
