If the Navasota Blues Fest was a person, he could drink this weekend, as the annual celebration of blues and its ties to Navasota turns 21-years-old. But you can drink it in regardless of your age, as fans, crooners, musicians and more return to pack out the Grimes County Expo Center.
But what is blues? Well, as the navasota grimes county chamber of commerce director is also a musician, he explains the genre can range from something you can just cruse with all the way to cutting a rug with.
Johnny McNally says you can get a bit better at the craft with the help of local songster Tubie Pushee at a free pre-festival workshop in Lynn’s Rendezvous Room Friday at 3pm.
McNally says the fest has plenty of singers on the way adding one such musician is Bennie Pearl. He knew the Navasota the native and famed bluesman Mance Limpscomb, and will teach Mance’s style and technique at 11 Saturday morning.
If this has whetted your appetite, go to www.navasotabluesfest.org for more. Tickets are $20 for Friday, $30 for Saturday or $40 for both, online or at the chamber, or Friday night at the gate.
