Gibbons Creek Power Plant set to be imploded Friday morning

October 13, 2021 by Willy1550

The former power plant at the Gibbons Creek property in Grimes County is being imploded.

The new owner of the property near Carlos, Charah Solutions from Louisville, Kentucky, has announced the site for public viewing is at the Gibbons Creek park and campground. The implosion is scheduled for Friday morning, October 15th, at 9 am. When the new owner announced its second quarter financial report in August, demolition of the plant is expected to be largely completed by the end of the year.

The company also reported in August nearing finalization of a redevelopment plan.

The implosion news release gave no specifics about Gibbon Creek’s future, only that they plan to maximize the potential of the reservoir and to take advantage of the existing power transmission and rail systems for industrial uses.
