It looks like last weekend’s annual Grimes County Gun show went quite well . . . considering . . .
The Friends of Grimes County’s Dianna Westmoreland says it went better than most thought it would, estimating the attendance at the 8th annual event was down about 30 percent, still 20 percent better than most gun shows these days that are reportedly down by about a half.
But the vendors all made money and say they’ll be back next year, Westmoreland reports. And The Friends also made money, Westmoreland adds, and as usual, all of it will go to support Grimes youth and senior citizens.
Next up for the friends is the annual Bubba Can Cook competition. Changes there this year include a new youth cookoff, local brisket competition, and there’ll be no karaokee.
And Westmoreland promises you’ll be able to sign-up for Bubba as late as you want, though that’s not a good idea.
She says she will take your money up to the moment she starts to pass out containers on Friday night, but, she laughs, they will not get a prime spot to park!
The 11th Annual Bubba Can Cook Cookoff comes to the Grimes County Expo Center (Fairgrounds) September 8th and 9th. Details at friendsofgrimescounty.com, or Friends of Grimes County on Facebook.
