A tagged Great White shark made history last Wednesday near Texas.
“LeeBeth,” a tagged, female great white weighing 2,600 pounds and over 14 feet long, was pinged just 200 yards off the shore of South Padre Island, the furthest west a white shark has ever tracked into the Gulf of Mexico
Sharktivity, an app supported by the nonprofit Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, has tracked her along the Gulf coast since January 1st in Florida, then South Carolina and Louisiana. They added that LeeBeth has traveled over 2,000 miles since then.
While locals have raised concerns, Tony Reisinger with Cameron County Marine Resources says, “The odds of being attacked are extremely low.”
The experts believe LeeBeth will migrate back up when warmer weather comes.
