Grimes County commissioners add usage policies to government computer systems

December 27, 2018 by Willy1550

Grimes County’s computer system and networking continues to get safer. At the December 19th meeting of commissioner court, IT director Gregg Cannon came before the court with a proposal for 3 new policies, the acceptable use policy, email policy and computer and internet usage policy.

Cannon explained what his goal is with these policies.

“We are not trying to be very restrictive, I am actually trying to be very lax on the usage of the systems. But, we need to have some policy in place…the idea is to set some kind of standard that says if you are going to use a county computer, this is the acceptable use way to use it,” said Cannon. “It just sets general guidelines…this will be an evolving document over time.”

County Judge Joe Fauth also explained why it is important for the county.

“I appreciate what Mr. Cannon has put together to, as I say, keep us in that safe mode as we go through our day-to-day business,” Fauth said.

The commissioner’s unanimously approved the new policies.
