Another Commissioner’s Court meeting has passed, and there is still no burn ban for Grimes County, despite surrounding counties, including Brazos County, having one.
At the meeting, Emergency Services Coordinator David Lilly said he spoke with all fire chiefs of the county on Tuesday, and they were evenly split on having, or not having, a burn ban. He said there are also other factors that go into a decision like this, besides just dry weather.
“If we put a burn ban in place, then property owners will not be able to remove burn piles from their property, and that increases the risk,” said Lilly.
Commissioner Chad Mallet, along with County Judge Joe Fauth and Lilly, discussed other options. Ultimately, Mallet mentioned that, if there are changes needed, then an emergency meeting could be called.
Also mentioned was the possibility of letting property owners finish up their burns, before implementing the ban.
The Commissioner’s took no action, which means there is no burn ban in place for grimes County yet. The next scheduled, regular meeting of Commissioner’s Court is set for August 26th.
