Here’s who won where it concerns Grimes County.
In the Texas House district 13 race was won by Republican Ben Leman over Democrat Cecil Webster, garnering nearly 80 percent of the vote. Leman was a former Grimes County Judge and the chairman of Texans Against High Speed Rail. District 13 covers Grimes County plus other counties south and East of us.
In the State Senate District 5 race, Rebublican incumbent Charles Shwartner defeated Meg Walsh by a 55-42 margin. Schwertner was recently accused of sending sexually explicit messages to a UT Grad Student. His district includes Grimes County, Brazos County and a few other surrounding ones.
Republican Kevin Brady, the incumbent in the US Representative District 8 seat, defeated Democratic candidate Steven David by collecting about 73 percent of the vote.
In the Justice of the Peace precinct three race in Grimes, Republican Mark Laughlin defeated Democrat Ronnie Well by a 61-39 margin.
Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 Proposition A of Grimes County, the legal sale of alcoholic beverages, passed by a 77-23 margin.
Proposition A in the City of Plantersville, a 1.5 percent sales and use tax, passed by a 57-43 percent count.
As far as the Ted Cruz/Beto O’Rourke race, Grimes County voted 76-23 in favor of Cruz. And in the race for Governor, the county went 77-21 in favor of incumbent Greg Abbott.
Finally, overall turnout in the county was around 53 percent.
