Summer is just beginning in Texas and with it brings the familiar “Heat Advisory.”
However, many across the state, especially locally, have already experienced abnormally high temperatures prompting Excessive Heat Warnings. While this term is not new, it’s not something that we have not seen used much in our area.
KBTX Meteorologist Kayleigh Thomas explains it’s importance.
Thomas also explained what the heat index is and how it is measured, and gives precautionary measures to stay safe from heat-related illness.
Heat-related illness symptoms include: heavy sweating, cold, pale, and clammy skin, a fast, weak pulse, nausea or vomiting, muscle cramps, tiredness or weakness, dizziness and headache.
If you or someone around you experiences these symptoms while prolonged exposure to heat, it is advised to get to a cool place and seek medical attention.
