Part of the Grimes County Fair will continue at the end of the month, while other events have been cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
County Judge Joe Fauth and County Fair Board President Rodney Floyd discussed the new plans for the fair during this week’s commissioner’s court meeting.
“A lot of the populated events, we went ahead and canceled,” said Floyd.
“So, the dinners, the dances, the rodeos? A lot of the fun things,” Fauth said.
“Yes,” replied Floyd.
As far as the fair is concerned, there was discussion about sanitation stations being set up, and social distancing would be in effect. He said they have contingency plans in place should restrictions be lifted or more strictly enforced by Fair time.
As for the auction and dinner, Floyd says that is still a work in process, but the most important things is getting the kids out to show off their animals.
“The biggest goal of the fair will be to get the animals shown,” said Floyd. “They have an expiration date, unfortunately, so, the shows are our main priority. The actual auction item can be postponed, and we’ll just have to work around that, if that is necessary.”
The Commissioners voted to proceed with the Grimes County Fair, as presented by the fair board, with the caveat that things could change before the event.
