Though the weather wasn’t totally cooperative, this year’s Grimes County Go Texan event produced 231 cook-off entries from 77 teams, raising approximately $35,000 for county youth in the process.
This year’s Best of Show cook-off honors go to the Swangerettes. This year’s Reserve Champion is Game Day Cookers #4, while the High Point Team Overall Champion is Hideaway Ranch #1.
Heading to Houston next year will be High Maintenance #1, who placed first out of the five dozen Country Barbecue entries. The Dollar Belles came in second, followed by Grease Monkeys #1 at third.
Hell of a Bunch #2 took top Open Barbecue honors, followed by Sin Tex and Hell of a Bunch #3 bringing up the rear.
This year’s best Ribs came from GCC #2, with Super Chango coming in second and the Plantersville Swangers #4 third. The Dead Broke Cookers produced the best Chicken, followed by Hideaway Cookers #2 and #3 in that order.
Of the dozen entries in the new Bobby Harris Invitational, Five Pack Cookers were top of the heap, followed by Dollar Belles and Hideaway Ranch Cookers.
The Pineywood Rooters topped 44 others for this year’s best Chili, followed by Plantersville Swangerettes #3 in second place and #4 in third.
This year’s best Quilt honors were bestowed on Diane LeFlore, and Wes and Stacey Male’s son, Jaxon, and Shawn and Melinda Pruett’s daughter, Jada, were voted this year’s Little Mr. and Miss Go Texan.
