Grimes County Growing Pains

November 21, 2014 by Willy1550

Residents of the County of Grimes will face several growth-related challenges next year, and it looks like the new County Judge has already begun the battle.

County Judge-Elect Ben Leman reported to County Commissioners last week the deadline for public comment on plans to construct a high speed Houston to Dallas bullet train right through the county, originally set for november 14th, has been reset.

Among the half-dozen public meetings the FRA and TXDOT presented on the project last month was one at the Brazos Center in Bryan and another at Huntsville’s Veterans Conference Center.

The currently proposed route parallels Grimes East of Dobbins, entering the county northeast of Richards and roughly following FM 39 northwest through Iola, exiting to Madison County, headed towards North Zulch.

Leman said he’s created new facebook pages to track the progress of both the bullet train and Centerpoint’s proposed transmission line linking the Gibbons creek substation south to Houston.

As of now there is an open house set for Thursday December the 4th in the Expo Center starting at 4:30, followed by a presentation at 6:30 and an hour of public comments until 8.
