Grimes County Historical Commission adds two members

December 27, 2018 by Andre Perrard

Some changes are being made to the Grimes County Historical Commission (GCHC) this coming term. At the December 19th meeting of commissioner’s court, the topic of appointing members to the GCHC was on hand.

County Judge Joe Fauth mentioned, before naming the two new members, what the main challenge is with the GCHC.

“The issue we have in Grimes County…because of conflict with schedules, health issues, what have you, it has been difficult for them to have a quorum. In fact, I attended their December meeting…there were only three, which did not represent a quorum,” Fauth said. “Therefore, they were not able to vote on anything. So, by having a few more citizens on that committee, it might be easier for them to conduct business and have a quorum.”

Fauth then presented the names of those on the GCHC for the upcoming term, and they go as follows. Most remain the same

Returning current members include Joe King Fultz, Margaret Norwood, Susan Boudreaux, Vanessa Burzynski, Betty Dunn, Bob Goldstein, John Maxwell, Robin Montgomery, Sarah Nash, Denise Upchurch and Hazel Weidman. The two new additions were Judge Fauth and Al Peeler.

The commissioners unanimously approved the new members, with Fauth abstaining from the vote. The GCHC will have 13 members on the committee. The state average by county is 19. The two year terms for those on the commission will begin in January of 2019.
